What is a nursing bra?

A nursing bra, tailored for breastfeeding, facilitates easy access to the breasts while providing optimal support. Unlike conventional bras, nursing bras feature cup openings for hassle-free nursing sessions, ensuring both comfort and functionality. These bras offer numerous benefits, including enhanced comfort due to their wire-free design. With their specialized construction, nursing bras are a preferred choice for mothers seeking comfort and convenience during breastfeeding.

Why invest in a nursing bra?

During breastfeeding, breasts undergo changes, becoming heavier, more sensitive, and requiring optimal support and comfort. Additionally, quick and easy access to the breast is essential when your little one demands feeding. Nursing bras and bralettes are purpose-built for this situation, featuring cup openings for convenient breastfeeding, simplifying the process when your hungry baby needs attention. These designs offer superior comfort compared to traditional bras, featuring wire-free support, wider straps, and a more encompassing back band. Moreover, they are crafted to provide gentle contact with sensitive skin, addressing the needs of mothers during this stage of life.

How to recognize a good nursing bra?

A quality nursing bra, much like a good nursing bralette, enables easy and swift access to the breasts for breastfeeding your baby. This can be achieved through a clip-opening system or a wrap-around design at the chest center.

Moreover, it should provide adequate breast support, accommodating the increased weight and volume due to milk production. Its cups should be elastic to comfortably adapt to changes in breast size (as breasts fluctuate between empty and full, their volume varies).

Opt for soft natural materials, such as organic cotton. However, steer clear of underwire, which can compress milk ducts and lead to engorgement.

How to determine my pregnancy bra size?

The most accurate method to determine your breast size is by measuring with a tailor's tape measure. You can find detailed instructions and measurement guidelines on our "Size Guide" page.

When can you start wearing a nursing bra?

A nursing bra or bralette can be worn from the end of pregnancy. It's advisable to begin wearing a nursing bra from the third trimester onwards, as breast size tends to stabilize, except for the few days following childbirth when milk production increases. Therefore, it's recommended to choose a model with flexible cups to accommodate breast size fluctuations.

It's best to have a nursing bra or bralette with you at the maternity ward so you can wear it after giving birth.

I'm not sure how long I'll breastfeed; is it worth investing in a nursing bra?

The vast majority of women can breastfeed, so if it's your wish, it's very likely achievable for you too!

Whether for a few weeks, months, or several years, having suitable breast support is crucial: comfortable, offering good support for milk-filled breasts, easy to open with one hand, and wire-free to avoid blocking milk ducts.

But most importantly, it's about feeling good and beautiful in it! The stretchable cups of Kallisto nursing bras and bralettes accommodate volume changes that may occur towards the end of pregnancy (up to 1 cup difference), allowing you to continue using your beautiful lingerie long after breastfeeding.

Therefore, it's a worthwhile long-term investment.

Early pregnancy: how to choose my bra?

The breasts undergo significant changes during the nine months of pregnancy. If you're looking to avoid spending a fortune on maternity bras, opt for adaptive lingerie with elastic cups and multiple sets of hooks at the back - such as Kallisto bras. This will allow you to adjust your bra throughout pregnancy and continue wearing it even after breastfeeding.

How to use a nursing bra or bralette?

A nursing bra or bralette is worn like a regular bra or bralette. The only difference is the discreet yet practical opening system that allows for easy breastfeeding: a clip above the cup, at the strap attachment point, or a center opening (in the case of a bralette).

What size of nursing bra should I choose?

If your breast size hasn't changed much during pregnancy, you can use your regular size from the Size Guide chart.

However, the best way to determine your size is to measure yourself with a tailor's tape measure and input the measurements into the appropriate table on the "Size Guide" page.

I have a generous bust, which model suits me best?

For ample breast support, opt for a model featuring a wide elastic band under the bust, full coverage cups, a broad back band, and wider straps.

Our nursing bras and bralettes provide excellent support up to cup size E.

For larger busts, we recommend the brassiere. Its enveloping shape, wide straps, wrap-around opening, and thicker absorbent lining make it the perfect choice for heavier breasts. Additionally, the bralette is available up to size 5.

Refer to the size guide to find your ideal size. And if any doubts linger, don't hesitate to contact us - we're more than happy to assist you!

Should I choose a nursing bra or a bralette?

The nursing bra is exceptionally comfortable and feminine, featuring soft lace and golden details. It opens with clips at the strap attachment point on the cup, allowing for easy and optimal access. You'll feel comfortable and feminine in your skin.

The bralette offers excellent support with its enveloping shape, even for generous busts. Its absorbent lining prevents any milk leaks and adds a discreet layer that also covers the nipple, ensuring you feel perfectly relaxed and covered. With its wrap-around opening, accessing the breasts is effortless. Its open back adds a touch of femininity, making you feel beautiful and confident.

How does the absorbent brassiere work?

The cups of the absorbent bralette (brassiere) consist of four layers:

- A microfiber draining layer in contact with the skin. This technical material dries quickly to ensure maximum comfort.
- An absorbent layer made of "fleece" microfiber, manufactured in France, absorbs and retains milk.
- A polyurethane laminate (PUL) layer prevents moisture from seeping through with a barrier effect.
- An outer layer made of organic cotton.

The combination of these materials provides you with peace of mind, ensuring no milk leaks, day or night!

How do I care for my Kallisto products?

It's simple!

All our models and pads are machine washable at 30 degrees, in a laundry bag to prevent damage to the lace and sequins.

Then, simply let them air dry (no tumble dryer!).

Are the panties absorbent?

No, Kallisto panties are classic panties made of organic cotton.

Do I need nursing pads?

If your breasts leak when you breastfeed or even when you're not breastfeeding, then you need nursing pads. Nursing pads provide comfort and peace of mind: they prevent milk from leaking through your clothes at unexpected times (often when you're thinking about your baby, hearing them, or even for no apparent reason!).

In particular, nursing pads are very useful if you experience leaks before childbirth, during the 2 to 3 days after childbirth when milk production increases, and for several weeks (or even months) thereafter.

Nursing pads can be worn day and night, inside a nursing bra or bralette that isn't already absorbent.

I want to gift a Kallisto model, how do I choose?

Otherwise, inquire about the preferences of the person you're gifting to, and don't forget to take their measurements!
