Season 1, Ep. #6. Camille Nérac, sexologist - Postpartum, maternity and sexuality: finding a fulfilling intimate life
In this episode of the podcast Kallisto Club , I had the pleasure of welcoming Camille Nérac, sexologist , for a sincere and taboo-free conversation about motherhood, sexuality after pregnancy and the importance of reclaiming one's body. This moment of exchange is ideal for all mothers looking for self-confidence and a newfound femininity after baby.
Changes in libido after motherhood: taking the pressure off
After giving birth, it’s common to see your libido fluctuate—and that’s totally normal! Camille reminds us that there’s no pressure to feel desire all the time: your libido is a fickle creature, influenced by factors like fatigue, stress, and hormonal changes. The important thing is to accept that desire takes on new forms and to understand that this journey is part of reclaiming your body after pregnancy.💡 Camille's tip: Give yourself permission to feel (or not) desire, without feeling guilty. Good communication with your partner can help create a caring space where intimacy is felt without pressure.
Types of desire: spontaneous or reactive?
With Camille, we discover that there are several forms of desire:- Spontaneous desire : that which arises naturally, as often happens at the beginning of a relationship.
- Reactive desire : which emerges with a “conditioning”, a moment of sharing, of connection.
During motherhood, it is common for reactive desire to take over spontaneous desire. The important thing is to listen to yourself, to feel free to say "stop" or "more" without guilt, to preserve an intimate relationship in accordance with what you feel.
A fulfilling sexuality thanks to a caring exit door
For Camille, one of the secrets to a fulfilling sexuality after motherhood is having a “benevolent exit door”: being able to interrupt an intimate interaction at any time, without fear of judgment or negative reaction. It is by building this framework of trust that we are able to flourish in a relationship.Communication in a couple: OSBD method
The key to a fulfilling relationship lies in caring and open communication. Camille suggests the OSBD (Observation, Feeling, Need, Request) method to help express your feelings after motherhood:1. Observation : describe the situation or the moment when a feeling occurs.
2. Feeling : identify the emotion felt.
3. Need : specify what you need to feel better.
4. Request : Formulate a request using “I” to avoid criticism.
Self-esteem and body image after pregnancy
Motherhood changes the body, and these changes can affect self-image, influencing postpartum desire and self-esteem. Camille invites us to approach this postpartum body with kindness, accepting that it can be a source of pride and pleasure despite – or thanks to – its new shapes.
“It will be different, but not worse,” she reminds us.
